We're pleased to be able to publish the first release of our online AFC Bournemouth museum!

When this project first started, it was conceived as a curated and organised photo gallery of AFC Bournemouth curiosities. We appealed on social media for people to dig out their old memorabilia and send us pictures - and while were sent a few contributions that were gratefully received it wasn't enough to build out into the collection that was initially envisaged... so we've gone a different way to start with.

In looking at other clubs' online museums, we saw that these often went hand in glove with archives and encyclopedias of results, players, managers and staff. Noticing that AFC Bournemouth fans were not well catered for in either space, the decision was made to focus on providing that kind of resource first.

We've collated a database of all every Bournemouth (and Boscombe) men's result from the football league era starting in 1923 onwards. From the turn of the millenium where such information is readily available online we have details like team line-ups, goalscorers, substitutions and bookings. Older fixtures do not but it is our aim to fill these gaps over time and with the help of the community.

We've used the lineup information that we had, along with some other online resources to build a database of men's players. This isn't complete yet but there are nearly 750 players entered so far. We're working through and adding photographs and details to profiles every day. Where players appear in the results data, you can see their matches by season - and we'll be adding more career information, biographical information, stories, media etc etc.

There will be additional views on the data provided - for example results by opposition club, by venue, managers, top goalscorers, bogey teams.. this is just the beginning.

We still want the exhibits, the curios, the stories, the memories. Having our database of players and results as a backbone will give us a framework to hang this all one and create something of massive value for our community.

We hope you enjoy what's there and can see the potential of this project. Many many hours of work have already gone into this and thousands more are to come.

How you can help

We need the data to fill the gaps we have - match details for games pre-2000. We've got the data for 1947/48, 1970/71, 71/72, 81/82 thanks to the "Official Club History & Championship Souvenir" from 1987.. and we're working through adding it all - but we need the rest. Any old editions of the Rothmans will be gratefully received!

We're trying to make sure what we have is accurate but have already found conflicts between different sources of data - if you spot anything that is incorrect, please let us know (ideally with a source of the correct information!).

We have very little information about the Southern League era and want to add that data too along with any historical information we can find about the founders of the club - and St John's Lads from which it came.

We're working through player images - we're at about 'BA' in those but player photos where they are missing are needed.

On the results page, team photos from numerous years are missing and needed..

We want to have programme covers from every match we can, as well as stories, pictures and memories about games, characters and people.. anything and everything to do with our club will find a place here! This project aims to create and preserve all of these memories for future generations to enjoy and relive.

We've deliberately qualified what we have with 'men's' - we want to expand this to the women's team as well.

Contribution and comment forms will come in time, but we'll gladly receive any contributions via our social media channels.

We're most active on BlueSky - https://bsky.app/profile/rednblack.net, have an and have an instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/rednblackdotnet/ - and we've also brought the old and defunct rednblack.net Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2438247997) and profile (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61572682232110) back to life to provide somewhere that people can connect with us and share contributions that can be used to build out this museum.

We hope you enjoy what we've built so far are as excited about what this can become as we are! I thought it was just going to be a photo gallery, but it's going to be huge...
